Mark Divine
SEAL FIT Founder & Head Coach

  

Mark Divine started his athletic career as a collegiate swimmer and rower at Colgate University.  After graduating, he became a competitive triathlete and martial artist before joining the Navy in 1990 as a SEAL officer.  He graduated as honor-man of his SEAL training class (BUD/S class 170) and served on active duty for nine years, leading teams from SEAL Team THREE and SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE.  As a Commander in the SEAL Reserve Force, he currently serves at Special Operations Command, Pacific.

After leaving active duty in 1996, Mark started NavySEALs.com.  Because of this project, the U.S. Navy hired him to start the highly successful Navy Recruiting Command's Naval Special Warfare Mentoring Program. In this role, he increased the Navy Special Programs’ screening test pass rate from 33% to over 85% in one year.  

Mark has trained and mentored thousands of Navy SEAL and other Special Ops candidates to succeed in the most demanding military training programs in the world.

Mark has a passion for training, mentoring, and the physicality of the martial arts and functional fitness. These interests—combined with his work in the inner-arts of intuition, awareness, and the “warrior spirit”—led him to create the SEAL FIT program in 2008.

SEAL FIT is gaining traction around the world for its challenging workouts designed to develop the whole person—including strength, stamina, power, mental toughness, durability, and awareness.  SEAL FIT is being used by athletes, military operators, law enforcement, first responders, CrossFitters, Special Ops candidates, and professionals of all types seeking to up their game.

Mark received his undergraduate degree in economics from Colgate University, his M.B.A. from New York University Stern School of Business, and is a C.P.A.

Dan Cerrillo

Dan Cerrillo is Senior Coach for SEAL FIT, and owner of CrossFit Bellevue in Bellevue, WA.  Dan is a former Navy SEAL (BUD/S class 194) with more than 13 years experience in the SEAL teams.

While on active duty, Dan completed six overseas deployments, including over a hundred combat operations during Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Dan was also a Master Trainer at the Navy SEAL training school, BUD/s.

After leaving the SEALs Dan focused his energy on coaching athletes, Special Operations candidates and professionals in CrossFit and SEAL FIT.  Dan thrives on forging mental toughness and bringing the best out in his trainees.

Chriss Smith

Chriss Smith is the founder and owner of Trident CrossFit in Alexandria, VA. A former Navy SEAL with more than 12 years experience in the SEAL teams and other Tier 1 Special Mission Units, he fully understands the necessity of total body fitness, mental toughness, and the roles they play in everyday life.

Chriss believes that the psychology of sport, fitness, and fun are integral components to a healthy lifestyle. His mission is to help others overcome self-doubt and their own perceived limitations, allowing them to unleash their warrior within.

Chriss is passionate about cultivating mental toughness and using functional fitness and SEAL FIT to develop character and bring out the best in his trainees. He is a real inspiration to those who have the opportunity to work with him.

Glen Doherty

 

Glen Doherty served as a Navy SEAL with multiple combat deployments for nine years. While on active duty, Glen completed several training programs, included the 18 Delta Special Forces Combat Medical School and the SEAL sniper course.

After separating from the Navy in 2005, Glen spent four years as a security and intelligence specialist for U.S. government agencies in high threat regions, including Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Part of his duties included teaching and training operators around the world in a broad range of disciplines.

An accomplished pilot, Glen has his multi-engine, commercial, and instrument flight ratings. He holds a B.S. in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a minor in aviation safety.

A former avid triathlete, Glen raced all distances—sprints to Ironman—including Ironman Canada in 2004, before retiring from the sport and taking up CrossFit and SEAL FIT.

Phil Black

Phil Black is the founder of FitDeck, Inc. and a former Navy SEAL (BUD/S class 203) and Navy SEAL instructor.

Phil studied economics, political science, and sociology at Yale University, where he graduated with a B.A. While in college, Phil played varsity basketball (power forward) for the Bulldogs. He spent two years as an investment banker for Goldman, Sachs & Co., and over five years as a Navy SEAL deployed around the world before earning an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

When not training people to reach their athletic goals through SEAL FIT, Phil works as a fitness consultant, motivational speaker, and personal trainer. He lives with his wife and their four sons in San Diego, CA.)

Shannon Phelps

Shannon Phelps, known as Kawika Sensei to his Ninjutsu students, is a tenth-degree black belt in Shoringin Ryu Saito Ninjutsu. Kawika has integrated this art with elements of Tai Chi Chuan, Ba Gua, and Akido to form the new and powerful Gozan Tengu Ryu Ninjutsu. Meaning “Five Mountain Path,” Gozan incorporates the “five mountains” of the physical, mental, sensual, emotional, and spiritual development.

Sensei Phelps is a Vietnam combat veteran who spent seven years as a Navy SEAL. An officer for the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in the Golan Heights, Syria, and Southern Lebanon, he later became a certified case officer for the C.I.A.’s counter-terrorist task force.

Sensei Phelps became fluent in Mandarin Chinese after sojourning in a Ch’an Buddhist monastery in China for two years. He earned a B.A. degree in international relations from Stanford University, a Master's degree in comparative world religions from Harvard University, and a Masters of Divinity from Yale University.

Sensei Phelps is not only a highly qualified teacher of Chinese and Japanese martial arts, but he’s made practical use of the arts in a multitude of real life situations during his time with the C.I.A.


Dan Miller

Dan was born in Kalamazoo, MI, and grew up the youngest of four boys in a household where sports and competition were never hard to find. While he played many sports growing up, his real passion was skiing. Dan’s dream of skiing in the Olympics led him to relocate to Winter Park, CO, to train and compete in mogul skiing for much of his young adult life. After retiring from competition, Dan became a ski coach, which provided his first opportunity to mentor and motivate people in physical pursuits.

Despite his love for the mountains, Dan put the snow shovel away in 2001 and traveled to Indonesia, Australia, and Central America. He subsequently landed in beautiful Del Mar, CA, and decided personal training would be a perfect fit for his active lifestyle and competitive nature. Regardless of your experience, Dan will motivate, educate, and provide an entertaining atmosphere for your workout.

Little-known Fact:
In 1991, Dan opened Rudi’s Deli in Winter Park, CO. The endeavor became one of his biggest challenges and rewarding experiences. Rudi’s still thrives today.


Glen Otero

Glen believes the best way to learn something is to combine formal education with practical training and diligent practice.

His mastery of the martial arts came from studying under multiple Kung Foo San Soo masters for a period of four years in San Diego.

Glen learned firearms skills—including rifle, pistol, and shotgun—from Kent Turnipseed, and even earned instructor status with Turnipseed Technique, Inc. He has also learned special tactics and techniques from LAPD SWAT and Heckler & Koch, and is a former NRA Rifle Instructor.

These firearms skills are combined with extensive outdoor knowledge and survival skills. In the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, he trained with the Boulder Outdoor Survival School (BOSS) to learn survival skills in a non-military setting. His time at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) added a wilderness leadership component to his skill set.

Glen has held concealed carry weapons (CCW) permits in several states, including California. He has worked in multiple security capacities and, on more than one occasion, worked alongside the Secret Service.

Glen holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from UCLA and a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Justin Marcis

Justin Marcis is the owner and head coach at Windy City CrossFit in Chicago, IL., where he prepares Navy SEAL candidates and civilians alike for the challenges of special operations forces training.  He has successfully prepared numerous civilians to attend and complete SEAL FIT’s world-famous Warrior Kokoro Camp, which is widely regarded as the toughest training endeavor outside of BUD/s.

Justin understands the necessity of disciplined and demanding functional training that emphasizes endurance, core training, teamwork, mental toughness, and perseverance in the face of adversity.   This is essential for all who seek the elite level of discipline, mental toughness, and durability of a Navy SEAL.  Through his work at Windy City CrossFit and with the SEAL FIT Warrior Kokoro camps, Justin has developed a passion for training those seeking the ultimate challenge of mind, body, and soul.
